This Groningen Antique Map titled ‘Groninga Dominium’ by Barthold Wicheringe offers a richly detailed 17th‑century view of the province of Groningen and the Ems estuary. Published around 1680, it shows Groningen on the left and Emden in Germany on the right. The map highlights the Dollert basin, formed after the great flooding of 1277, and includes many roads, dikes, and fortified towns.
The engraving was first produced by Jan Jansson and later reissued by his son‑in‑law Jansson‑Waesberg together with Moses Pitt and Stephan Swart. Two ornate cartouches decorate the composition: one with a classical warrior and the figure of Justice near the title, and another with agricultural scenes around the scale bar.
The map measures 38 x 49.5 cm, has fine colouring, and remains in very good condition with only a small restoration along the fold. French text appears on the reverse. This Groningen Antique Map Wicheringe is a superb piece for collectors of Dutch cartography, combining historical importance, fine engraving, and remarkable decorative style.

These original maps remain prized for their detail and artistry, influencing future mapmaking and holding high value for collectors and museums today.
